Not The Maramures Tunebook: the book), which far from being just for fiddlers and those interested in a little-heard-of region of Eastern Europe, take this wild yet sophisticated communal art form and demonstrate its relevance to many different forms of music-making in the here and now. There is room for participation at many different levels, from just listening and watching, to dancing, singing, shouting, beating rhythms, strumming or bowing various drone-to-harmonic accompaniments, learning fragments of melody and improvising on them, and thinking about how the changing music of this remote rural region can and should be approached by the natives of the region, by those in diaspora, and by those who are attracted to its music from afar.
